She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated from the program in 2000, earning a degree of Bachelor's in Fine Arts. Since then, Brugel's been in over 60 productions both big and small. The most notable was the time she was cast as Rita in The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian of the season 1 actors of the series and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
